April Beaton

Senior Speech Pathologist - Northern School for Autism

Professional Bio

With more than 10 years of experience working as a Speech Pathologist, April has chosen to specialise in disability with a particular passion for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her areas of interest are in the AAC space, building communication communities and literacy. She maintains clinical speech services working with the National Disability Insurance Scheme and works at a Melbourne-based Autism Specific school. April manages a large therapy team, consisting of 35 Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Assistants. Recognising that the needs of autistic children requires a highly tailored therapy approach, she has focused her additional learning and training in the areas of AAC innovation and assessment. April has seen and experienced firsthand the imminent demand for further research and attention to this space, and as such, she endeavours to advocate and follow the innovation that supports this particular population.
